Huon Valley Kingborough Workforce Planning Study

Southern Employment & Training Network (SETN) have released their Huon Valley Kingborough Workforce Planning Study final report.

The report details strategies and actions that will guide the SETN Jobs Hub in defining their role in workforce planning across the Huon Valley and Kingborough region.

SETN Chairman, Robert Banfield said “This report is the culmination of a 5 month partnership between SETN and KPMG, during which we consulted with local industry and major employers to gain a thorough understanding of their current situation and future growth projections.”

A survey conducted during the study found that many local businesses often feel the effect of staff shortages, with almost 70% of business surveyed feeling forced to bring unskilled or untrained employees on board. Access to affordable housing and public transport across the region were identified as key barriers to attracting workers.

“While we can identify these challenges now, it is worthwhile noting that there are plenty of positives too. Our region is growing, and this presents opportunities for the community – most businesses expect their workforce to increase over the next 5 to 10 years. The Huon Valley Kingborough Workforce Planning Study provides insight for industry and employers to consider while undertaking their own workforce planning activities. We can all learn from the common themes that emerged throughout the study, and the SETN Jobs Hub will work with employers and jobseekers to support this growth.” Robert said.

The final report was endorsed by the SETN board in August, and is available here.
