Child and Youth Safe Statement of Commitment
Tasmania’s Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework (the Framework) is a law to keep children and youth, physically and culturally safe in organisations. The Framework is established under the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Act 2023. The Framework includes the Child and Youth Safe Standards, the Reportable Conduct Scheme, information sharing provisions and the Independent Regulator.
SETN pledges to meet all obligations under this Framework, integrating its principles into our everyday operations, policies, and culture. We are committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people who participate in our programs, services, events, or come into contact with our staff, partners, and facilities.
We have zero tolerance for child abuse or harm. We endeavour to safeguard young people by:
Putting in place, maintaining, and regularly reviewing policies and guidelines to ensure that engagement with those under 18 is conducted in a safe, inclusive, and supportive manner.
Ensuring all staff, volunteers, contractors and partner organisations are aware of and adhere to their roles and legal responsibilities, including mandatory reporting.
Making sure work experience hosts, training providers, outreach locations, and employers partnering with us have appropriate systems, policies, and practices in place to protect children and youth.
Retaining communication records and relevant documentation securely and backing up records when staff leave.
Including expectations around child safety in our Documentation Retention and Confidentiality frameworks.
Our focus is on creating an environment where every young person feels safe, supported, and able to reach their potential.
We will continue to work to embed cultural safety, inclusive practice, and child-centred thinking in all SETN activities, staying alert to emerging risks and continuously improving our policies and practices.
